Biography

Mr. Ronald Paul Joelson, also Known as Ron, serves as the Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Insurance Investments. Mr. Joelson has been the Chief Investment Officer at The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company since June 2012 and also serves as its Executive Vice President. Mr. Joelson is responsible for the Northwestern's three investment subsidiaries Mason Street Advisors, LLC, Northwestern Mutual Capital, LLC and Northwestern Mutual Real Estate Investment, LLC. Mr. Joelson joined Northwestern Mutual in 2012. Mr. Joelson has extensive investment management experience and a significant knowledge of insurance products gained through various roles both within and external to Northwestern Mutual. Mr. Joelson’s investment experience includes familiarity not only with the spectrum of investment asset classes, but also with risk management, investment strategy, analytics and leadership development. He served as the Senior Vice President at Prudential Asset, Liability and Risk Management since 1999. Mr. Joelson served as the Chief Investment Officer and Senior Vice President at Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company. He served as the Chief Investment Officer and Senior Vice President at Genworth Financial, Inc, Asset Management Arm from 2009 to April 30, 2012. Mr. Joelson served as the Chief Investment Officer and Senior Vice President at Prudential Financial, Inc. from 2000 to 2007. He served as Senior Vice President and Head of the Asset, Liability and Risk Management Area of Prudential Financial, Inc. Mr. Joelson joined Genworth from J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Inc. in New York, where he served as Managing Director of Insurance Strategic Markets Coverage since July 2007. Prior to that, from 1984 to 2007, he held a number of financial positions at Prudential Financial in Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Joelson spent his first 11 years there in private placements and structured finance. From 1996 to 1999, he served as the President of Guaranteed Products, Prudential Institutional. He serves as the Chairman of the Board at Northwestern Mutual Series Fund Inc. and has been its Director since November 19, 2015. Mr. Joelson has been an Independent Director of Conning & Company since February 27, 2013. He serves as a Director of American Skandia Life Assurance Corporation and served as Director of Genworth Life and Annuity Insurance Company. Mr. Joelson served as a Director of Pruco Life Insurance Company of New Jersey and Pruco Life Insurance Co. He served as a Director of Pruco Life of New Jersey Variable Contract Real Property Account. Mr. Joelson served as a Director of Pruco Life Variable Contract Real Property Account and Prudential Annuities Life Assurance Corporation. He earned his M.B.A. in finance and accounting from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business in 1983 and graduated in 1980 from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY with an BS in Economics and Government.
