Biography
Laurel Dolin Stevenson, PhD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences and Master of Public Health Programs at Oakland University. Dr. Stevenson has a PhD in Health Behavior with a minor in Inquiry Methodology and an MPH from Indiana University, and a BA in Spanish from the University of Michigan. Dr. Stevenson is interested in using mixed methods and a community-based participatory approach to improving health outcomes for individuals. Her research focuses on exploring helping behaviors in low-resource settings, improving physical activity and eating behaviors, and increasing individuals’ and communities’ capacity to improve overall health. Additionally, she has worked as a program specialist and evaluator for a number of programs locally and internationally surrounding HIV/AIDS prevention, youth empowerment, sexual health, domestic violence, human rights, physical activity and eating, and building community capacity. Current and former partners include the Cornerstone Foundation of Belize, Trinity Health International, Healthy Pontiac We Can!, Oakland County Health Division, and Detroit SOUP.
