Biography
Dr. Newton began her tenure at Oakland in 1997 as an Assistant Professor in the SON after completing her PhD in Nursing at the University of Michigan. Her clinical nursing specialty was adult liver transplantation and research and scholarship was initially focused on adult liver transplant recipient return to work post-transplant. As the Undergraduate Program Director, she oversees all three academic tracks of the SON undergraduate program (Accelerated Second Degree, Basic-BSN and the BSN degree completion sequence for registered nurses) and report directly to the Associate Dean. In addition to her role as UPD, during the 2011-2012 academic year, she served as the primary author on the SON’s Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation self-study report. The SON undergraduate program received full CCNE accreditation for 10 years, through 2022. She is passionate about writing for the discipline of nursing and her scholarship now focuses on nursing education with emphasis on undergraduate student/program outcomes and pedagogy.
