Biography

After growing up near an Air Force base with a father who worked for NASA, Barry graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland, followed by an M.S. in Engineering at the University of Michigan. After serving in the Air Force, he received an M.S. in Computer Science and moved to Columbus to work for a major R&D firm. He later left to start his own project management consulting practice. Along the way, Barry discovered a latent interest in medicine, starting as a hospital emergency room volunteer in 1984 and then moving on to what has become a 30-year involvement in emergency medical services. In 2006, Barry graduated from Marietta College with a masters in physician assistant studies; he has been practicing cardiology ever since. He joined the faculty of Ohio Dominican in 2014, where he lectures and also assists with the department’s simulation laboratory. Barry and his wife Lindalee have three children and seven grandchilden, many of whom live in Columbus. He is the author of Old Man on Campus, a book detailed his experience as an older PA student. He continues to work in a local cardiology practice and, because it will always be in his blood, rides a few times each month as a paramedic with Madison County EMS After growing up near an Air Force base with a father who worked for NASA, Barry graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland, followed by an M.S. in Engineering at the University of Michigan.
