Martin D. Conger

Biography

 arty Conger serves as Chief Financial Officer and Associate Laboratory Director for Business Systems at PNNL. He is responsible for all financial systems and practices as well as oversight of the contracts (sales and acquisitions) functions. He is successfully stewarding an initiative to transform PNNL's business systems into the most modern, capable and mobile-enabled systems of any lab that will enable scientists to focus more on research and development activities in support of DOE and the nation. Since assuming the CFO role in 2006, He has helped PNNL to achieve 35% growth in business revenues to over $1 billion and spearheaded development of a successful financing plan for two private facilities as well as execution of an affordability plan for seven new state-of-the-art facilities—all valued at more than $300 million. Marty developed and organized the National Laboratory CFO Working Group, of the National Laboratory Directors Council, which was created to help DOE solve major financial and business challenges. Marty continues to Chair this group. One recent effort undertaken by this group was to gain an understanding of the costs of benefits and pensions across the entire DOE complex, and with the resulting findings, Marty helped orchestrate a DOE-wide plan of action to reverse the escalating trend of benefit and pension costs.
