Biography

Dr. Waldner specializes in ichthyology and has authored over 60 professional and popular articles dealing with fishes and fishing. He has led numerous educational trips to Mexico, the Galapagos Islands, the Bahamas, and the Florida Keys. He has the distinction of having a fish parasite (Renocila waldneri ) named in his honor as well as having a children’s science book, Wet and Wacky Water Fun, dedicated to him. Dr. Waldner was the recipient of the 1994 Florida Professor of the Year Award, granted by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He gives numerous presentations to local organizations each year and was the keynote speaker at the Society of Aquatic Veterinary Medicine’s 1986 annual meeting in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. Dr. Waldner holds the honorary position of adjunct professor of zoology at Florida Atlantic University and is a member of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists and the Association of Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean.
