Biography
Dr. Arani Bose, M.D. Co-Founded Penumbra, Inc. in 2004 and has been its Chief Innovator since 2004. Dr. Bose served as Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of Penumbra, Inc. since 2005 until 2015. Dr. Bose serves as Director of Stroke Research at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He has been Director of Penumbra, Inc. since June 2004. He served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Neurology at the New York University School of Medicine, where he also had a clinical practice. While at NYU, he founded Smart Therapeutics, Inc. and serves as its Chairman. At Smart Therapeutics, Dr. Bose developed the Neuroform Stent for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms and the Wingspan Stent for the treatment of intracranial atherosclerosis as well as led their respective international clinical trials that resulted in approval of both devices by the US FDA. He is certified by both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Bose is a senior member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology and the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology. Dr. Bose has authored numerous patents, articles and book chapters in the field of Neuroscience and Neurointervention. Dr. Bose received his medical training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Yale University and the New York University Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
