Biography
Guy joined PetroStrat in March 2015 after 11 years at The University of Birmingham. He started his career in palynology with an M.Phil. from Cambridge University before studying Paleogene palynology from North America (Mississippi, Alabama and Wyoming) for a Ph.D. at Sheffield University. Before Birmingham, he held academic research positions at Sheffield University, University College Cork and the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution where he is still a research associate. Previous work has included projects on the Shetlands-Faroe basins, Rockall, NW Pacific (Japan), Gulf of Mexico, Canadian Arctic and US western interior basins. He has published widely on the Paleogene of North America, especially the Wilcox Group of the GoM and the Western Interior basins. The Hodson Award from the Palaeontological Association was awarded in 2007 for his early-career work in palaeontology. From 2014-15 he was a joint Senior Lecturer on secondment with the British Geological Survey helping to underpin biostratigraphic work there. He has served on the board of the Paleontological Association and the Palaeontographical Society as well as prolonged service as Organiser for the Linnean Society Palynology Specialist Group. He has served as a Director-at-Large for AASP The Palynological Society and is currently President. He is an associate editor for the journal Paleoceanography.
