Biography
Marisa joined PetroStrat in March 2012 after submitting her Ph.D. in Geology at the University of the Algarve, Portugal. Her Ph.D. focussed on dinoflagellate cysts biostratigraphy of the Jurassic fill of the Algarve Basin and the Carrapateira outlier in southern Portugal; it also investigated stable isotopes of carbon and oxygen from the carbonate sequences. The results of her thesis have been published and she successfully defended her thesis in September 2012. In 2006, before completing her Ph.D., but having completed her degree in Biology and Geology (teacher training) at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, she taught secondary school pupils in High School for two years. Since joining PetroStrat, Marisa has been working on the palynology and biostratigraphy of Tertiary sections from Gulf of Mexico, Late Cretaceous sections from West Africa and Jurassic sections from the North Sea, South America and Middle East (Qatar). Fully certified for offshore work, she has already conducted wellsite palynology in offshore USA (Gulf of Mexico).
