Biography

Silvia joined PetroStrat in September 2013 and prior to that had 12 years’ experience in university research. She completed a Ph.D. in Geology at the University of Zaragoza, Spain, in 2006. The focus of her Ph.D. was the taxonomy and palaeoecology of Palaeogene benthonic foraminifera, palaeoenvironmental reconstructions and application in chronostratigraphy. Silvia also has experience of a two-year postdoctoral research position at University College London (UCL). Prior to joining PetroStrat, she was a researcher at the Stratigraphy and Palaeontology Department of the University of the Basque Country, Spain. She was particularly interested in the analysis of critical events along Earth’s history such as the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) and the Eocene/Oligocene boundary. The material she studied was mostly from Iberian outcrops and Atlantic ODP sites and this research has been published. Silvia has now gained biostratigraphic experience in the Cenozoic and Cretaceous of the North Sea, Cretaceous of East Africa (Indian Ocean) and the Cretaceous and Jurassic of the Porcupine Basin (Atlantic Ireland), including wellsite assignments in Denmark.
