Susan Matthews

Biography

Sue works as a Consultant Senior Palynologist to PetroStrat.  She has over 30 years’ experience in petroleum industry consulting. After attaining an M.Sc. in Palynology at Sheffield University in 1981 she spent 7 years working mainly on the Cretaceous and Palaeogene of tropical sections from West Africa and South America. She has worked as a palynological consultant since 1988 and has gained extensive experience in many areas including many wells from the tropical Cenozoic of The Niger Delta and several large scale, predominantly Cretaceous, multi-basin studies from the offshore basins of Brazil. More recent work includes very detailed and extensive analyses of mainly Cretaceous core samples from the North Slope of Alaska (Ugnu and Schrader Bluff formations) and from the Cretaceous Tar Sands of Canada. She has also completed a study from the Cenozoic of the Beaufort McKenzie Basin, Canada and from the Triassic Ivishak formation from Alaska. Recently, she has continued to gain experience from Palaeogene and Cretaceous sections from West and North Africa.  Additionally, from 1991-2008, Sue was a Palynology lecturer for the MSc in Micropalaeontology at University College, London, as well as being a supervisor to several students and an Honorary Research Fellow at UCL.
