Biography

Lynn Schenk joined our Board of Directors in 1995. Ms. Schenk serves as Chair of our Risk Committee and is a member of our Compensation and Management Development Committee. Ms. Schenk is an attorney and consultant in private practice with extensive public policy and business experience. She is also a member of the Board of Overseers of the Scripps Research Institute, a director of the California High-Speed Rail Authority Board and a trustee of the University of California, San Diego Foundation. From 1999 to 2003, she served as Chief of Staff to the Governor of California, during which time she led the effort to create the Institutes for Science and Innovation at the University of California. From 1993 to 1995, Ms. Schenk was a Member of the United States House of Representatives, representing San Diego, California, and served on the House Energy & Commerce Committee with a special emphasis on biotechnology. From 1980 to 1983, she was the California Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing, during which tenure she formed the California Commission on Industrial Innovation. During the California energy crisis and post-9/11/2001, Ms. Schenk headed the risk management team for the State of California’s Executive Branch. Lynn Schenk joined our Board of Directors in 1995.
