Biography
Dr. Olafson received his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in the laboratory of William A. Goddard III and completed his postdoctoral training with Martin Karplus at Harvard University. He was the CEO and co-founder of Molecular Simulations Inc. (MSI) along with Professors Goddard and Stephen Mayo. MSI later evolved into Accelrys (NASDAQ: ACCL). While at Harvard, he was involved in the initial design and implementation of CHARMM, and while at MSI, he co-authored the BIOGRAF molecular modeling program. Dr. Olafson continues to be involved in developing the DREIDING molecular mechanics forcefield and in applying it to biological systems.
