The team of people that I work with at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center is a top class group of individuals and I’m very proud to work with them,” says Schmidt. Schmidt’s father was a long time Purina employee who started with the company in a swine genetic company named Kleen Leen. As a result, Schmidt grew up on a Kleen Leen genetic multiplier farm in Williamsburg, Ind. She then attended Purdue University receiving her bachelor’s degree in animal science. After graduation Schmidt went to work for a large swine production unit in Greensburg, Ind. and later managed the Monsanto Dardenne Research Dairy working on the bovine somatotropin (BST) project. Schmidt grew up with all types of livestock. She had hogs and beef cattle growing up and later took a keen interest in horses. At Purdue, Schmidt was able to work with dairy cattle and dived further into dairy at Monsanto. Schmidt still raises beef cattle, horses and show pigs at home.
