Biography
Dr. Higginbotham (AΩA, Morehouse School of Medicine, 2011, Faculty) will become the President Elect for the AΩA Board of Directors. She is the inaugural Vice Dean for Inclusion and Diversity at the University of Pennsylvania, and Senior Fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Ascension Board, of which she is the Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee. Dr. Higginbotham is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Defense Health Board, Visiting Committee of the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science at MIT. She is an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Vice Chair of the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study. She is a graduate of MIT with an SB and SM in Chemical Engineering, and of Harvard Medical School. She serves as the AΩA Leadership Committee Chair, and was active in developing the new Fellow in Leadership Award. Her specialty is ophthalmology, and she is a glaucoma specialist.
