Biography
Dr. Gaston earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., and received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Gaston completed a residency in pediatrics at Naval Regional Medical Center and was Chief Resident in pediatrics and a teaching fellow at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, both in Bethesda, Md. He continued his postgraduate training as a fellow in pulmonary medicine at Children's Hospital, Boston, Mass., followed by a clinical and research fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, also in Boston.Prior to joining the UH Rainbow staff in 2012, Dr. Gaston was Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His previous positions include attending physician University of California, San Diego, Medical Center, San Diego, Calif.; attending physician, Division Head and Cystic Fibrosis Clinic Director, Naval Hospital, San Diego; and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, N.C.Dr. Gaston currently is Principal Investigator on several studies related to pediatric asthma, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and apnea hypertension in children. He has published more than 125 articles on pediatric pulmonary problems in peer-reviewed journals and authored more than a dozen chapters in medical textbooks.
