Biography

 Jose is a prominent figure in the maritime industry. As the former engineering department head at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and the Engineering Department Chairman at the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, Jose has influenced the training and curriculum of marine engineers in the United States for over 47 years. Jose is an expert in the design, operations, and repair of marine and industrial power plants (internal combustion engines, gas turbines, conventional steam, and nuclear), refrigeration and air conditioning systems, and liquid cargo systems. In addition to his extensive experience in higher education, Jose has over 50 years of boating experience, more than 5 years of sea time on ocean going vessels, and considerable practical experience serving as a consultant to maritime and non-maritime firms and organizations. Jose authored numerous publications in the areas of marine engineering and education, including refereed journals and transactions and contributed to technical text and reference books. Among his achievements, Jose is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State and an Extended Member of the New York State Board for Engineering and Land Surveying. He is a Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and has served as President of SNAME (1999-2000) as well as the Society of Marine Port Engineers (1994-1995).
