Biography
Jeff Canar, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Systems Management. His training and prior work as a clinical psychologist, with an emphasis on rehabilitation psychology and behavioral medicine, led to significant interest in clinical operations and outcomes. Prior to joining Rush full time in 2013, he received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology, completed a clinical internship and subsequently worked for 12 years at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. While at Hines, he worked on the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) service, working with inpatient and outpatient veterans. Canar also served as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) coordinator for the SCI service and as the Integrated Ethics Program officer for the facility. His primary research interests involve operational improvements to maximize inpatient and ambulatory patient outcomes. Canar teaches courses in statistics for students in the undergraduate health sciences and occupational therapy programs. He also teaches course work in epidemiology and co-instructs the master’s project class for the Department of Health Systems Management.
