Janis Prince

Biography

Dr. Janis Prince is Assistant Professor/Lead Faculty of Sociology. She is the Saint Leo University International Sociology Honor Society (Alpha Kappa Delta) Chapter Representative. Dr. Prince teaches a variety of sociology courses including racial and ethnic relations, deviance and social control, along with quantitative and qualitative methods. Before coming to Saint Leo University, Dr. Prince was Research Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida. In this position, she was Co-Principal Investigator or team member on a number of projects including research on the use of psychotropic medications by children in the child welfare system and cultural competency in children’s mental health. She has also held research and evaluation positions at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Southern California. Her work appeared in the Everyday Sociology Reader and The Politics of Black Women's Hair. Dr. Prince’s research interests including reducing racial disparities, racial and ethnic identity construction, and cultural competence.
