Duc Dong

Biography

Dr. Dong was recruited as an Assistant Professor to Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in 2008 to continue his research in developmental genetics and disease. His lab has developed the first zebrafish monogenic diabetes model and is continuing to develop other disease models that will be amendable for drug discovery. He is a recipient of the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, which funds the adaptation of a new genetic mosaic technology developed by his lab towards the reprogramming of new cell and organ formation within a living vertebrate.

Research Interest

Dr. Dong’s goal is to uncover fundamental insight into basic and biomedical science through the rigorous investigation of the genetic mechanisms governing organogenesis and disease. His laboratory has discovered multiple genes critical for lineage specification of liver and pancreas progenitors and is developing several animal models of diabetes that will be amendable for in vivo drug screens.
