Biography
Dr. George W. Bo-Linn, M.D., M.H.A., FACP serves as the Chief Program Officer of San Francisco Bay Area at Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Dr. Bo-Linn has more than 20 years of experience as a clinician, researcher and senior healthcare executive. He has over 25 years of extensive executive leadership and expertise in the field of healthcare including medical research, private practice, health insurance plans, nursing and physician organizations, and health/hospital systems. He served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Catholic Healthcare West. His responsibilities included all aspects of clinical quality, patient safety and satisfaction, risk management, resource utilization management, clinical information systems (including privacy and security), and healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and others). He served as Chief Medical Officer, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Dignity Health. Prior to CHW, Dr. Bo-Linn served as Chief Medical Officer of Unity Health System, St. Louis, Mo. He served as Medical Director for the Sisters of Mercy Health System-St. Louis, Mo. Previously, he served as Chief of the division of gastroenterology in the department of internal medicine and physician leader of the strategic planning unit for community services at St. John's Mercy Health System. He established a solo gastroenterology practice in St. Louis in 1984 after having held the positions of Director of research and Medical Director of the gastrointestinal physiology laboratory at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He continued in private practice until 1997. He serves as a Director of CHRISTUS Health. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board and Member of Strategic Advisory Council at Santé Ventures, LLC. He serves as a Trustee of Catholic Healthcare Partners. He served as a Trustee at Mercy Defiance Hospital. He served as a Board Member of the Mercy Medical Group, St. John's Mercy Health System. Dr. Bo-Linn was elected a member of the CHP board of trustees in 2001. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, lectures extensively nationally and internationally and serves on several boards of national healthcare organizations. His residency in internal medicine was at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, gastroenterology, and he had a subspecialty fellowship at the University of Texas, post-fellowship training at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Germany, and received his Masters of Healthcare Administration at the Carlson School of Business, University of Minnesota. Dr. Bo-Linn holds a B.A. from Rice University, and an M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine.
