Dr Rebecca Caffrey

Biography

 Dr. Caffrey is a seasoned biotechnology executive and entrepreneur who has worked in and helped launch biotechnology startups for over 15 years.  She has worked with startups in the US, UK, and Qatar and has secured $20M in funding for them.  For the last 3 years, Dr. Caffrey has served on the VCU Commercialization Advisory Panel, and as Entrepreneur in Residence she evaluates new technologies for commercial potential for VCU’s Innovation Gateway.  She has previously held executive leadership positions in Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Metabolon, Asterand, Target Discovery, Inc., Ciphergen Biosystems, and Miltenyi Biotec (AmCell).  She earned her doctorate in Immunology from the VCU School of Medicine in 1998 and subsequently earned MBA’s from Columbia University and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.  Dr. Caffrey has published many scientific articles in peer reviewed journals, and is an inventor on over 20 pending patent applications.  She is a native of Richmond, VA.
