Biography

MS, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Senior genetic counselor, clinical research manager, Columbia University Medical Center. In addition to her faculty role at Sarah Lawrence College, she is the principal research coordinator for DHREAMS (Diaphragmatic Hernia Research & Exploration; Advancing Molecular Science), an international study of the genetics of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. She is co-chair of the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Clinical Sequencing Exploratory Research working group, where she participates in research examining the ethic, legal, and social implications of diagnostic and predictive genomic testing. In 2016, Julia was awarded the Jane Engelberg Memorial Fellowship by the National Society of Genetic Counselors in order to fund a two-year research project examining the effects of whole exome sequencing (WES) and the utility of educational videos to augment WES patient education.
