Biography

Education: BA, Mathematics, California State University, Sacramento, 1986; MA, Mathematics Education, California State University, Stanislaus, 1992. At SPU since 1996. Following six years in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Russ Killingsworth returned to school to become a high school mathematics teacher. After more than four years of successful experience at Patterson High School he moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue graduate work, spending five years teaching at the University of Washington and South Seattle Community College before coming to Seattle Pacific University. He teaches a variety of mathematics courses for the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as secondary mathematics methods, and elementary math content and methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate level for the School of Education. Killingsworth served as director of SPU’s Mathematics Endorsement program for many years. He has also served on the board of the Washington State Mathematics Council, including two years as president, and is involved in many statewide mathematics-related issues. Mr. Killingsworth was on the team that wrote the 2008 Washington state middle school standards, and he co-chaired both the 2008 Washington state mathematics standards and the 2013 Northwest Mathematics Conference, which hosted about 1100 attendees. He also serves on the NCATE (now changed to CAEP, or Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) Board of Examiners, where he assists in accrediting educational programs nationwide several times per year.
