Biography
Education: BA, Westmont College, 1974; PhD, University of Minnesota, 1982. At SPU since 1982. Dr. Steve Johnson wrote his doctoral dissertation in the area of commutative ring theory. That said, knowing that he wanted to end up in a small college math department, he took a much broader than usual selection of courses. Since coming to SPU, he has taught most of the courses offered by the Math Department. He has also mentored senior projects in Philosophy of Mathematics, History of Mathematics, Game Theory, Graph Theory, Projective Geometry, and Ring Theory.
Research Interest
Dr. Johnson has wide ranging interests within mathematics.
