Biography
Jerry has almost two decades of laboratory experience and technical expertise in eye banking, including serving as the director of clinical services at The North Carolina Eye Bank and founder and president of Ocular Systems, Inc (now part of SightLife Surgical). Jerry’s history includes establishing a multi-disciplinary team of specialists that worked with surgeons, pharmaceutical companies, researchers and bioinformatics firms to maximize use of scarce donor tissue. He led a team that collaborated with surgeons and researchers using the Intralase FS™ laser to investigate and develop innovative uses of allografts. He has broad experience with physician relations, regulatory affairs, quality control procedures, voluntary medical standards and applicable state and federal regulations. In 2004, Jerry founded Ocular Systems, Inc., which was the first company to focus on corneal tissue processing for endothelial keratoplasty procedures. OSI also focused on product development by creating the Endoserter, which has become the preferred corneal endothelial delivery instrument and represents a breakthrough in surgical technology. Jerry has a B.S. in Biology with Chemistry minor from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. He is an EBAA Certified Eye Bank Technician and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/Firefighter). He also completed the Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC.
