Biography
Teri Finneman is an assistant professor of journalism at South Dakota State University. She spent more than a dozen years working in the news industry in newspapers and television, including a fellowship at ABC News in Washington, D.C., and serving as a multimedia Capitol correspondent for Forum Communications in North Dakota. Finneman received her master’s degree and Ph.D. from the Missouri School of Journalism. She is the author of Press Portrayals of Women Politicians, 1870s-2000s, which was named a 2016 finalist for the Frank Luther Mott - Kappa Tau Alpha book award for best research-based book about journalism or mass communication. Finneman also contributed to two other books released in 2016: A Companion to First Ladies and Cross Cultural Journalism: Communicating Strategically About Diversity. Finneman’s research primarily focuses on women, politics and media, although she also conducts research related to media ethics, media history and oral history. She teaches social media, multimedia, media and diversity, history of journalism, and women and media. She is co-adviser of the department’s Journalism Club. In 2016, Finneman was among eight employees recognized at SDSU for Faculty & Professional Staff Accomplishments & Aspirations.
