Biography
Julie K. Dunston received a BSIE from the University of Iowa in 1991, followed by an MSIE in 1993, also from UI. She completed her PhD work in July 1995, and was awarded her PhD in Mechanical Engineering in December 1995. In August 1995, she joined the College of Engineering at Southern Illinois University and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001.
Research Interest
Her research interests include intelligent manufacturing; process modeling and control; quality improvement with the integration of AI and statistical methods. She has conducted research with Ford Motor Company in the area of intelligent manufacturing of composites; and has worked with John Deere on projects utilizing neural networks for predicting fatigue life and implementing Six Sigma for the development of torque standards. She has been actively involved in programs that encourage women to pursue engineering as a career, and has served as the SME Advisor for the local student chapter since 2003.
