Biography
Dr. Martin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and a nationally certified speech-language pathologist. He joined St. John’s University in 2014 and is based on the Staten Island campus. Before joining the faculty at St. John’s University, Dr. Martin was a Scientist (promoted from Investigator in 2013) at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences at UNC.
Research Interest
Dr. Martin’s research focuses on speech and language development of children with fragile X syndrome (FXS), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and Down syndrome with a particular emphasis on pragmatic language, prosody, and the overlap of FXS and ASD. Through this work and related work, Dr. Martin has co-authored over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 60 national or international conference presentations. Dr. Martin is always looking to work with bright, hard-working, and intellectually curious students on research.
