Eduardo Vivanco

Biography

Eduardo Vivanco is Ph.D. History of Art, Stanford University; M.Phil. History of Architecture, Yale University; M.A. History of Art, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Fulbright Scholar; M. Arch. Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Eduardo Vivanco—as a historian of art and architecture as well as a trained and registered architect—is a scholar of places that navigates the disciplines of art, architecture, and design history to identify relationships between ideas and built artifacts. This attention to place enables his interests and activities to be both focused and capacious. By looking in detail at the production, use, and reception of particular designed objects, buildings, cities, and landscapes, Vivanco recovers the communities that inform and are—at the same time—informed by the places that all these objects constitute. Eduardo has lectured at Yale, Cornell, and Madrid Polytechnic universities, and his work and writings have been published in Journal of Architectural Education, Design Issues, and El Croquis. His first book, on three spatial artworks by James Turrell, will come out in 2018.
