Biography
Dr. Barwick received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Veteran Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Veteran Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, along with a research postdoctoral fellowship at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, FL. She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Stanford's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and also holds the position of Director of Behavioral Sleep Medicine at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center in Redwood City.
Research Interest
Dr. Barwick specializes in the assessment and treatment of insomnia, sleep apnea, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, and parasomnias from a Health Psychology perspective. Treatment includes cognitive-behavioral and augmented therapies for addressing problems with falling and/or staying asleep, managing sleep patterns that are earlier or later than desired or needed, having recurrent nightmares, and adjusting to Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy for sleep apnea. Research interests include the refinement of current clinical guidelines for assessing and treating insomnia and delayed sleep phase disorder, the development of a translational understanding of these disorders ("bench to bedside"), and the use of wearable technology in furthering these clinical-research endeavors.
