Biography
Dr. Gerald R. Popelka obtained a PhD degree from the University of Wisconsin, with an emphasis in neuroscience, and completed a two year post doctoral research fellowship in Otolaryngology at UCLA. Prior to this he earned a masters degree in Audiology from Kent State University. He was a full professor at Washington University in St. Louis until he joined the Otolaryngology faculty at Stanford in 2004 where he was also Chief of Audiology for a decade prior to joining the Neurosurgery faculty.Dr. Popelka’s research has been funded continuously with grants from NIH and a wide variety of other agencies. He initiated and completed successful collaborative research projects among diverse academic divisions including Otolaryngology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Engineering.Dr. Popelka also has responsibilities within the medical school including the Stanford Balance Center that he co-founded, and across the campus including pre-major undergraduate advising and as a member of the Advisory Council for the Center on Longevity.
Research Interest
Current research efforts are centered on optimizing tinnitus measures, determining the most effective stimulus parameters including sound frequencies, levels and sequences and insuring accurate and reliable methods of signal delivery.
