James M. Covert

Biography

Mr. James M. Covert serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Stanley Convergent Security Solutions, Inc. Mr. Covert founded Cambridge Protection after 30 years of experience in the industry. Early in his career, he spent 10 years in the U.S. Secret Service at the White House during the Nixon, Ford and Carter Administrations. In October 1987, he founded SecurityLink Midwest. In December 1994, he sold SecurityLink Midwest to Ameritech, and he served as Chief Executive Officer of Ameritech's SecurityLink subsidiary until 1996. In June 1996, Mr. Covert founded Signature Security Group in Australia. Mr. Covert left Signature in early 2000 to found Cambridge with GTCR upon the termination of a non-compete agreement resulting from his employment relationship with Ameritech. He also founded HSM (Honeywell Monitoring Services). He has been the Executive Chairman of Job Search Television Network, Inc. since June 2012. He has been a Director of Protection 1, Inc. since June 4, 2010.

Research Interest

Mr. Covert is a member of the United States Security Industry's Hall of Fame and is a frequent speaker at the business management schools of several noted universities including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, USC and the Kellogg School of Business Management. He began his career as a member of the United States Secret Service. Mr. Covert holds Bachelor's degree in Criminology and graduated with honors from the United States Secret Service Academy.
