Biography
Dr. Marlon came to Las Vegas in 1972 as Chief of Cardiology at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital (now UMC), a position he retained until 1986. Dr. Marlon was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Health Services, Inc. (Sierra), a publicly traded (NYSE: SIE) diversified healthcare company headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Marlon founded Sierra in 1984. The company was comprised of a family of health-related subsidiaries including Health Plan of Nevada (HPN), Nevada’s largest health maintenance organization (HMO). Sierra became a public company in 1985 and was ultimately listed on the NYSE. At times, Sierra had between 5,000-7,000 employees and more than $4 Billion in revenue. In February of 2008, Sierra and its subsidiaries became part of UnitedHealthcare (United). Dr. Marlon was a consultant to United through February of 2009.
