Christie L. Comunale

Biography

Christie L. Comunale joins Stony Brook University after serving 14 years in LIU Post’s School of Professional Accountancy where she held the rank of Professor of Accounting and after a one-year visiting appointment in Stony Brook’s College of Business. Dr. Comunale is a licensed CPA and has gained audit experience at Coopers & Lybrand in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Comunale is an award-winning researcher in the areas of audit judgment and decision making, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process. In addition, a recent area of Dr. Comunale’s research, which grew out of her association with Dr. Thomas Sexton at Stony Brook University, is the application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and related techniques to current issues in business and public policy. Dr. Comunale has presented her research at numerous American Accounting Association meetings and has published in competitive peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Comunale has received numerous teaching awards including LIU Post’s David Newton Award for excellence in teaching. Last year, Dr. Comunale received Stony Brook University’s College of Business Outstanding MBA Instructor Award. Dr. Comunale was the founding faculty member of LIU Post’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter. She served as advisor to the University’s Chapter for 14 years during which time it earned Superior Status, the highest ranking of a chapter, for 11 consecutive years. Dr. Comunale also served on the Executive Board of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants – Suffolk Chapter and has chaired its Young CPAs Committee. Dr. Comunale earned her Ph.D. in accounting from the University of South Florida, and her MBA and BS from Loyola University Maryland.
