Biography
Professor La Point has spent the majority of his career working for large multi-national companies such as Xerox, UTC/Carrier, ITT Industries and Cooper Industries in all areas of supply chain. He brings his 17 years of experience in Supply Chain to the classroom. Professor La Point has been a full time faculty at the Whitman School of Management for 15 years where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Operations Management, Logistics Strategy, Distribution Center Operations and Design, Lean Six Sigma and Project Management. His classes employ case based or problem based teaching providing students the opportunity to apply content to real world problems. He has overseen numerous Lean Six Sigma projects in private industry, the US Armed Forces and the Department of Defense. As a volunteer he has spent considerable time working Crouse Hospital to standardize the treatment process for patients with COPD. Professor La Point is Director of the Salzberg Award program, Director of the Singapore Summer Internship program and Assistant Director of the Franklin Program in Supply Chain Management. He is a 2013 Meredith Teaching Award recipient and multiple recipient of the Chancellor’s Citation for Public Engagement. Professor LaPoint received his BS from Syracuse University in Transportation Distribution Management, his MBA from Syracuse University in Quantitative methods, MS in Instructional Design Development & Evaluation from Syracuse University School of Education and is currently pursuing a PhD in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation.
