Dr. Rao received Fellowship, Hematology, from Cardeza Foundation for Hematologic Research, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, in 1979 and Fellowship, Hematology/Oncology, at Temple University Health Sciences Center, Philadelphia, PA, in 1978.He served residency, Internal Medicine, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, in 1977. Internship, Internal Medicine, from Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA, in 1975. he received MBBS, from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, in 1973; Pre-Medical, at Hindu College, University of Delhi, India, in 1968 and M.E.A. School, New Delhi, India, in 1967. Dr. Rao received Institute Prize for Distinction (ranked first) in Pharmacology.
