Katie C. Julien

Biography

Dr. Julien was born in Phoenix, AZ, but grew up in Anchorage, AK. She received an Associate’s Degree in Dental Assisting from the University of Alaska and worked as an assistant for several years in both general and orthodontic offices. She moved to Texas in 1986 where she continued to work as an orthodontic assistant while completing her undergraduate coursework at the University of Texas, Arlington. She attended the College of Dentistry where she graduated in 1992, earning the Gold Metal in addition to several other scholastic and clinical awards. She then continued her education at the College of Dentistry, receiving an Orthodontic Certificate and Masters of Science in Oral Biology in 1994. Upon graduation, Dr. Julien returned to Alaska where she practiced for 17 years in Anchorage, AK. She also maintained remote “Bush” practices in Dillingham, Naknek, and Big Lake, Alaska. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists and an active member of the Edward Angle Society and the Texas Orthodontic Study Club. She was the elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Alaska State Society of Orthodontists for 15 consecutive years. In 2011, Dr. Julien relocated to Texas and is now a full time faculty member at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry. She teaches in both the Undergraduate and Graduate Orthodontic programs and is the Clinic Director for the Graduate Department of Orthodontics. In addition to her teaching activities, she maintains a part-time private practice in McKinney, TX. She has been married to Steve McKean for over 25 years and has 3 children. She lives on a small ranch north of Dallas where she has dogs, cats, several head of cattle, and a large garden.
