Biography

Dr. Strawser’s teaching interests include financial and managerial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, and behavioral applications in accounting. He has served on the Ph.D. committees of 79 Texas A&M; accounting Ph.D.s (50 as chair). His research has been published in Abacus, Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accountancy, Managerial Accounting, Journal of Applied Psychology, and numerous other academic and professional publications. Dr. Strawser is listed in McGraw-Hill’s Accounting Literature Index as the leading active author among all U.S. and international academics, in terms of the number of articles published in top academic and professional accounting journals. Among the recognitions he has received include Outstanding Teaching Award, Honors Program; Research Awards, Texas A&M; Former Students, Mays College of Business, National Association of Accountants; Diversity Awards, American Institute of CPAs, Texas A&M;, Outstanding Alumnus Award, Beta Alpha Psi. He has co-authored the following texts: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Principles of Accounting, Survey of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Readings and Cases in Auditing, and Auditing Theory and Practice. He has served as editor of the Education Research Section of The Accounting Review and as editorial consultant to the CPA Journal. He has also served on the Committee on Changes in Accounting Education and the Committee on Auditing Concepts of the AAA, the Committee on Minority Recruitment of the AICPA and as an instructor in the AAA’s Professional Development Course in Behavioral Science. His service to Texas A&M; includes Secretary-Treasurer, Faculty Senate; Associate Dean; Research Director; and Ph.D. Coordinator, College of Business. He also served as department head while at the University of Houston. Dr. Strawser has taught at the University of Virginia, University of Maryland, George Mason College, Pennsylvania State University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Northeastern University, and the University of Houston in addition to his 25 years at Texas A&M; University.
