Biography
Dr. Ng is an associate professor of agribusiness and strategy management at Texas A&M University. He was formerly an assistant professor at University of Alberta (2000-2004). He has received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001. His BS and MS degrees are from University of British Columbia, Vancouver and Mc Gill University, Montreal, respectively. Research:Dr. Ng’s research is mainly focused on the interstices of strategic management and agribusiness. A focus of Dr. Ng’s research program is to examine strategic issues at multiple levels of analysis that span intra-firm, firm, inter-firm and market level processes. This involves drawing from varied disciplinary areas that include management, psychology, sociology and evolutionary thinking; including complex system perspectives. He has published in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Emergence, Journal of Chain and Network Science, International Food and Agribusiness Management Review and other related journals.Dr. Ng’s research has been noted with various distinctions. Dr. Ng’s article on “Doing the Right Entrepreneurial Thing: Ethical Decision Making Under Uncertainty” was published in the 2012 Academy of Management Best Paper award proceedings. The article titled “Understanding the Market Dynamics of Entrepreneurial Networks” was a Best Paper nomination for 2008 8th International Chain Conference, Ede, Netherlands. The article titled “The Paradox of Embeddedness: Strong and Weak Tie Performance in the Biotechnology Industry,” won best paper at the 7th International Chain Conference in June 2006. Also, he won the Outstanding Research Paper Award from the Academy of International Business and Economics in 2005 for an article titled “Strategic Change through a Competition of Realities,” and in 2004 he won best paper for Management, Organization Division and was nominated for the William H. Newman Award of the Academy of Management for “The Enactment of Competitive Markets and Organizational Performance.” Service: Dr. Ng has as guest editor on the a special issue of the Pluralism of Agribusiness for the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review, the chair of WERA-72 (Western Education and Research Activities Committee on Agribusiness) and the organizer and chair of the 2009 Agribusiness Research Form. Dr. Ng also serves on the Editorial Review Board for The International Journal of Complexity in Leadership and Management.
