Biography

Mr. Matthew E. Winter, also known as Matt, has been the Chief Executive Officer of Allstate Life Insurance Company since January 5, 2015. Mr. Winter has been the President at The Allstate Corporation since January 5, 2014 and has been the President of Allstate Insurance Company since 2009. He served as the President of Allstate Personal Lines at Allstate Insurance Company and The Allstate Corporation. Mr. Winter served as President of Allstate Auto, Home and Agencies and Allstate Life Insurance Company since February 27, 2012. He leads Allstate’s personal lines businesses that provide auto and home insurance through Allstate agencies, including Insurance Operations (Allstate Claims, Product Operations, Risk Management and the Program Management Office) and Agency Operations (Exclusive Agency Sales, field operations, Customer Experience and Retention). He served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lincoln Benefit Life Company since March 2010. He has been the Chairman of The Board at Allstate Life Insurance Company of New York since March 2010 and served as its Chief Executive Officer and President. Mr. Winter served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of at Allstate Financial, LLC. He served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Allstate Life Insurance Company. He served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Delaware American Life Insurance Company. He served as Executive Vice President of Allstate Insurance Company. He served as an Executive Vice President of C.M. Life Insurance Company since 2001. He served as Senior Vice President of Life Insurance of American International Group, Inc. since March 2007 and its Vice Chairman of Transition Planning & Administration since April 2009. Mr. Winter served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of SunAmerica Financial Group Inc. (formerly, AIG Life Holdings (US), Inc. and AIG American General, Inc. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of American General Life Companies (American General) since 2006. Mr. Winter served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of American General Life Insurance Company until August 2009. He also practiced law for several years and served for more than 12 years on active duty with the United States Army. He served as an Executive Vice President and a member of the office of the Chief Executive Officer for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (Also called as MassMutual Financial Group) (MassMutual) from 1996 to 2006 and also served as its Executive Vice President of Individual Insurance Group. As Head of MassMutual, he had responsibility for the Individual Life, Annuity, Disability Income, Long Term Care, Large Corporate markets and Structured Settlements Businesses, the Income Management Group, the Trust Company, the Career Agency System and the Broker and Dealers. Mr. Winter serves as Chairman of the board of directors of the Houston Food Bank. He served as Chairman of Allstate Life Insurance Company and American International Group Inc. He has been Director of Lincoln Benefit Life Company since December 2009. He has been Director at H&R Block, Inc. since November 03, 2017. He serves as a director of Houston Grand Opera. He serves as a Director of Allstate Life Insurance Company. He served as a Director of Allstate Life Insurance Company of New York since December 2009. He served as a Director of EP Global Communications Inc. until March 31, 2009. He spent more than 12 years on active duty with the U.S. Army and also practiced law for several years before joining the insurance industry. Mr. Winter obtained BS from University of Michigan in 1979, J.D. from the Albany Law School of Union University and a Master of laws degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. In 2001, he completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
