Biography

 Dr. Catherine Angell Sohn, also known as Cathy, Pharm. D., CLP, is the Founder of Sohn Health Strategies, LLC and serves as its President. Dr. Sohn served as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Alliance, GSK Consumer Healthcare, at GlaxoSmithKline from 1998 to 2010, where she spearheaded a series of U.S. and global licensing, merger and acquisition transactions. Since 2010, Dr. Sohn consults to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and consumer healthcare companies in the areas of business strategy, business development and strategic product development. Dr. Sohn has significant industry experience in pharmaceutical and health related sectors based on her leadership and achievements in business development and new product development for 28 years at Glaxo Smith Kline. From 1982 to 2010, she was with GlaxoSmithKline plc after holding various pharmaceutical, vaccine and consumer healthcare leadership positions. She served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Business Development and Strategic Alliances for consumer healthcare division at GlaxoSmithKline plc. Early in her tenure with GSK, Dr. Sohn established the U.S. vaccine business unit for SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals from 1986 to 1990 and led the commercialization of Engerix-B Vaccine, which grew to more than $100 million in sales. Subsequently, she led the commercialization of Paxil, which became one of GSK’s top five products in the U.S. Dr. Sohn joined Smith Kline & French (now GSK) in anti-infective medical affairs and later acted as Vice President for worldwide strategic product development for the cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic therapeutic areas with responsibility for product strategy, valuation and strategic commercial leadership of assets from Phase 1 through global life cycle management from 1994 to 1997. She was a member of the global executive team for strategic product development. She was the Product Marketing Director for the successful U.S. launch of the company's central nervous system product from 1990 to 1993, which subsequently grew to more than $1 billion in sales. Dr. Sohn began her pharmaceutical career at SmithKline & French in the Anti-infective Medical Affairs group in 1982. She has been a Director of Jazz Pharmaceuticals plc since July 27, 2012. She has been a Director of The F. Dohmen Co. since 2012. Dr. Sohn has been a Director at Landec Corp. since November 14, 2012. She has been a Director at CHD Bioscience, Inc since February 03, 2014. She has been a Director of Ariel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since April 5, 2012. She has been an Independent Director at Jazz Pharmaceuticals Public Limited Company since July 27, 2012. She is a Board member, World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Dr. Sohn served as an Independent Director at Neuralstem, Inc. since January 14, 2014 until May 20, 2017. She served as a Member of Health Advisory Board at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Sohn is Dean’s Professor and member of the Board of Visitors at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Sohn started her career as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council for Drexel University School of Public Health, serves on the Ben Franklin Technology Partners Investment Advisory Committee, Ernst & Young’s global Life Science Advisory Board, Springboard Enterprises Life Science Council and the global advisory board of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA). She is an NACD Governance Fellow. She is a member of the Ben Franklin Technology Partners Life Science Investment Committee and Springboard Enterprises' Life Science Council. She has also served to the boards of multiple non-profit organizations, including two terms on the Member of Health Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and the External Advisory Board for Drexel University Close School of Entrepreneurship. She was vice chair of the Corporate Executive Board of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She served as Director of Consumer Healthcare Products Association. Dr. Sohn has received numerous awards and honors, including the University of California, San Francisco (USCF), School of Pharmacy, Alumnus of the Year in 2000; the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) Woman of the Year in 2003; and the Licensing Executive Society’s Frank Barnes Mentor Award in 2009. She is a Certified Licensing Professional (C.L.P.). She received Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She also received a Certificate of Professional Development from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
