Biography
Mr. Charles W. Newhall III, also known as Chuck, is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus at Mid-Atlantic Venture Association. Mr. Newhall is a founder and serves as the Chairman Emeritus of MAVA. He is a Co-Founder of Greenspring Associates. Mr. Newhall joined Greenspring Associates, Inc. as Chairman of its Industry Advisory Board in 2013. In this capacity, he provides insight and industry expertise in its due diligence process, as well as recommendations for strategic initiatives. Mr. Newhall co-founded New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 1978 and served as its General Partner until 2012. Prior to co-founding NEA, he served as Vice President at T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. and a Vice President of the New Horizons Fund. He was employed at Integrated Health Services, Inc. He served as Vice President of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. He serves as Chairman of Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since August 10, 2016. He is the Chairman Emeritus of Industry Advisory Board of Greenspring Associates, Inc., where he was the Chairman of Industry Advisory Board. In this capacity, he provides insight and industry expertise in its due diligence process, as well as recommendations for strategic initiatives. He serves as a Director of Communication Systems Technology, Thomas Weisel Partners Group, Inc., CompHealth, Pioneer EyeCare, Inc., Concurrent Pharmaceuticals, Sensors for Medicine & Science, ElderHealth and Hospital Partners of America, Inc. Mr. Newhall was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Venture Capital Award by the National Venture Capital Association in 2016. He served in Vietnam commanding an independent platoon including an initial reconnaissance of Hamburger Hill. His decorations include the Silver Star and Bronze Star V (1st OLC.). Mr. Newhall received an M.B.A. degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a B.A. in English Literature, with honors and an Honors degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania.
