Biography
Dr. Jan L. Williams is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Merrick School of Business. She holds the distinct honor of earning the first Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Graves School of Business and Management at Morgan State University. Since joining the faculty at University of Baltimore in 2006, she has taught financial accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Williams' research focuses on accounting ethics and financial reporting improprieties, and she has published articles in academic and practitioner journals. Her service to the academic community includes Secretary of the Diversity Section of the American Accounting Association, and a member of the Academic Advisory Board of Kaplan CPA Review, and the Editorial Review Board of the Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies. In her professional career as a Certified Public Accountant, prior to entering academia, she worked as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP and an accounting manager for Kirschner Medical Corporation. Dr. Williams has received numerous awards, including an esteemed Henry C. Welcome Fellowship from the Maryland Higher Education Commission and a Hoffberger Ethics in Teaching Award by the Merrick School of Business; and recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Making a Difference: A Selection of Graduate Degree Holders and Their Contributions to the Public Good. Committed to improving the lives of others, she serves as a financial literacy workshop presenter, mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, and treasurer of Green Dollars Project, Inc.
