Biography

Bernard Ewigman, MD, MSPH Professor and Owen L. Coon Foundation Chair of Family Medicine at NorthShore. Education:  1985 MSPH, Public Health, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO; 1982 Family Medicine Residency, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO; 1979 M.D., University of Missouri, Columbia, MO ;1974 B.A., Biology, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. The author of 80 peer reviewed articles in scientific journals, Dr. Ewigman is the founding editor of the monthly journal, Evidence Based Practice; the founding editor of a point of care electronic knowledge "textbook" with 2,400 "chapters"; the founding editor of a series of over 500 evidence based structured reviews of the world literature addressing clinical problems identified by practicing physicians in the course of patient care; and the founding editor of a literature surveillance system that reviews over 10,000 research studies annually to identify new recommendations for dissemination and implementation in family medicine practice. He is the founder and current President of the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN), a national academic consortium of over 3,000 academic and practicing physicians dedicated to translating research into practice and generating research from practice. He has served as Principal Investigator on 17 federal or foundation grants and contracts with total direct costs of $17 million and is the lead for the Knowledge Transfer Unit and the NorthShore Practice Based Improvement Research Network on the $21 million Clinical Translational Science Award grant from the National Institutes of Health to The University of Chicago.
