Christopher L. Guymon

Biography

Christopher L. Guymon is the interim Dean of the Graham School and has served in various roles with the School since 1986. Before becoming interim Dean, he was Senior Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer from 2015 through June 2017. Previous to this role, he served from 2000 as the Associate Dean of Administration. As an Associate Dean of Administration, he served in interim roles as the Associate Dean for Business and Professional Programs and Graduate Studies; Associate Dean for Humanities, Arts, and Sciences and Summer Session; and Director of Marketing Services. Prior to this service as Associate Dean of Administration, he served for ten years as the Divisional Director of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences at the Graham School. Guymon has also held various leadership roles in the University Professional and Continuing Education Association. Guymon’s doctoral research and writing in higher education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has focused on the history, development, and organization of the private research university since the late nineteenth century, with particular focus on the role of the Provost. Outside the field of continuing higher education, Guymon is an organist, carillonneur, and a music historian whose research interests have focused on the influencers of Johann Sebastian Bach and the symphony-cantata as developed by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
