Biography
Randall Fuller's abiding interest is in nineteenth-century American literature and culture. In his first book he examined the uses to which Ralph Waldo Emerson was put by cultural critics during the century following his death. His next book was a group biography of American writers during the Civil War. Currently Fuller is at work on a study that examines the way Darwin's On the Origin of Species was received by a cluster of American intellectuals in the year before the Civil War began.
