Tim Coburn

Biography

r. Tim Coburn serves as Director of the School of Energy Economics, Policy and Commerce within the Collins College of Business at The University of Tulsa. He also directs the Master of Energy Business (MEB) program, the Master of Science in Global Energy, and the Master of Science in Business Analytics, and holds an academic appointment as Professor of Energy and Operations Management. Prior to his tenure at The University of Tulsa, Dr. Coburn held the Mesa Petroleum Professorship in Statistics and Management Science at Abilene Christian University, where he also served in various administrative and management roles. Dr. Coburn has a long history of involvement in the energy industry. He previously worked for Phillips Petroleum (Bartlesville, Denver, Seattle), Marathon Oil (Denver, Houston), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Golden Colorado); and he also completed professional internships/sabbaticals and related work assignments in the mathematical geology group of the Kansas Geological Survey, the eastern energy division of the US Geological Survey, and the energy and environmental resources group at Sandia National Laboratory, and the Daniels College of Business at The University of Denver. Dr. Coburn’s career includes managerial, operational, and technical assignments in the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas sectors, as well as in alternative fuels and renewable energy. He has served as an industry consultant for many years and is actively engaged in a number of industry professional organizations.
