Biography
Mr. John M. Fahey, Jr., serves as a Partner in Capital Investors. Mr. Fahey served as the Chief Executive Officer of National Geographic Society Inc., from March 1, 1998 to August 19, 2013. Mr. Fahey joined the National Geographic family in 1996. Mr. Fahey served as President of National Geographic Society from March 1, 1998 to December 2010. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of National Geographic Ventures from April 1996 to February 1998. From 1989 until joining National Geographic, he served as the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Time Life Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Time Warner Inc. for seven years. He served as an Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Time Life Books for three years. Earlier, Mr. Fahey worked for Home Box Office, where he was instrumental in the startup of CINEMAX and was a Circulation Manager for TIME magazine. He has been Independent Non-Executive Chairman at Time Inc. since June 29, 2017. He served as the Chairman of National Geographic Society from January 2011 to February 11, 2016 and served as its Trustee until February 11, 2016. He has been an Independent Director of Lindblad Expeditions Holdings Inc. since July 8, 2015. He has been an Independent Director of Time Inc. since June 7, 2014 and served as its Lead Director from June 7, 2014 to July 3, 2017. Mr. Fahey has been an Independent Director of Johnson Outdoors Inc. since 2001. He serves as a Director of Jason Foundation for Education and is a member of the Newseum Advisory Committee. He served as a Director of Exclusive Resorts LLC. Mr. Fahey represents National Geographic on the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO. Mr. Fahey serves as a Member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents, a six-year term he was appointed to by President Obama in February 2014. Mr. Fahey has been selected as one of Advertising Age's top 100 marketers and by Irish American magazine as one of the top 100 Irish Americans. Mr. Fahey received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Manhattan College and his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
