Biography

Regular Full and Part Time Faculty, Ensemble Directors Kareem Roustom Lecturer of Music Kareem Roustom is an Emmy-nominated composer who has written music for film, television, the concert hall and album projects. Steeped in the musical traditions of the Near East and trained in Western concert music and Jazz, Syrian-born Kareem Roustom is a musically bilingual composer whose credits include commissions for renowned conductor Daniel Baremboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, the Kronos Quartet, the Philadelphia Orchestra's Educational Department, numerous film scores for award-winning independent films, arrangements for artists such as Shakira and Beyonce, and to the Philadelphia Orchestra and orchestration for video game titles such as Remember Me and Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry. Roustom is currently working on an orchestral commission from renowned conductor Daniel Barenboim to compose an work for the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. he title of the work is Ramal and will have its premiere in Buenos Aires in the Summer of 2014 and will then be performed at major music festivals including the Lucerene and Salzburg Festivals. Roustom's film music awards include an Emmy nomination for his score the PBS documentary "The Mosque In Morgantown" a fellowship to the prestigious Sundance Film Composers Lab, and BMI's Pete Carpenter Fellowship
